Chakras, their location, what they mean, ways to bring balance..
Chakras are the circular vortexes of energy that are located in seven different points on the spinal column as you can see in the image above. All the seven chakras are connected to the various organs and glands within the body. These chakras are responsible for disturbing the life energy, which is also known as Qi or Praana. Whenever a chakra is disrupted or blocked, the life energy also gets blocked, leading to the onset of mental and health ailments. When the harmonious balance of the seven chakras is disrupted or damaged, it can cause several problems in our lives, including our physical health, emotional health and our mental state of mind. You can restore balance and remove blockages in many different ways. Listed below are some ways that we feel can help restore a healthy energy flow and balance.
Color-Choosing color when getting dressed or when picking out crystals, let your intuition guide you when picking out what to wear or what crystals to carry. You could be drawn to a color like red to try to be more grounded as an example.
Crystals and Wearing jewelry- Choosing crystals based on color and what chakra associated to can help open the energy flow when you focus on the color and also place on the area that you feel it out of balance and needs attention. Wearing chakra inspired jewelry can also help with restoring balance by raising our awareness of the energy flow of the chakras in our body.
Sound-Just as color has a frequency, so too does sound. Our energy centers resonate to specific musical notes. Root = C, Sacral = D, Solar Plexus = E, Heart = F, Throat = G, Third Eye = A, Crown = B. You can use singing bowls, tuning forks as well to help raise vibration.
Essential oils- also resonate at a particular frequency and can be used to balance chakras. They can be applied directly or by inhaling. We carry chakra balance roll ons at the store.(Please ensure if applying directly to the skin that they have been diluted sufficiently with a suitable carrier oil.)
Visualisation- Visualization is quite possibly the most powerful tool of all. Sitting in meditation, visualise drawing energy up from the center of the earth and cleansing each energy center, with the relevant color, sound and frequency or even just focusing on the color associated with each chakra can truly help restore a healthy flow of energy and balance.
What the 7 chakras are, colors and location on the body...
The root Chakra is located at the base of your spine in the tail bone area. It is our survival center, our foundation and when healthy leaves us feeling secure, grounded and stable. A blocked Root Chakra can prevent us from advancing in life leaving us feeling stuck. The lack of balance prevents the release of restricting emotions (insecurities, fear, guilt, etc.) that hold us back. If we cannot release what is holding us back (our ability to let go) than we cannot move forward.
Keywords: Survival, Security, Support, Stability, Sexuality, Individuality, Courage, Grounding, Self Healing, Self Nurturing, Earthly Purpose, Reality.
Your sacral chakra is located in the lower abdomen, about 2 inches below the navel and 2 inches in. This is the center of our creativity, desire, sexuality, and abundance. It’s this chakra that has the ability to store instantly usable energy, ready for you to draw upon when needed. It facilitates the flow of creative and artistic energies which allow you to feel inspired, making everything you do easier, and life seems to flow. It brings peace, calmness, opportunity and happiness to your life. Your self confidence is boosted making it easier to control your emotions.
Keywords: connection to other people, creativity, sex, relationships, confidence, well being, emotional balance, relaxation, fertility, abundance.
Our Solar Plexus is located in our upper abdomen, just below the breast bone and is where we “digest” our life experiences and also transform them into learning for our higher purpose. It is the center of your personal power, ambition, emotion and is where feelings and sense of touch are processed. This area is where our “gut” feeling comes from and your instinctively yes/no response. Stress has a huge impact on this Chakra and when it is not balanced we often feel drained. The idea of trying to do too much, running around (like a headless chicken), multitasking, trying to be in too many places at one time makes a person unfocused and exhausted. This also has the same effect when we have ideas/thoughts but never put these into action. A balanced third Chakra allows us to feel centered, have self esteem, self respect, be less sensitive to criticism and therefore, can care for yourself and others.
Keywords: Bravery, strength, confidence, self-esteem, nurturing, emotions, trust, responsible for decisions, empowerment, manifestation, surrender.
Our Heart Chakra is located in the center of our chest, just above the heart. It represents love, inner peace, joy, compassion and your connection to everyone. When this chakra is balanced we have healthy relationships with other people, yourself and with life. You can enjoy yours/others success and happiness without fear or jealousy. The Heart Chakra encourages openness, which others will reflect back to you, like a mirror.
The heart chakra is the connection between the lower three chakras and the higher three. When we come across situations that make us fearful it is because of congestion in the heart chakra which pushes this down into your solar plexus giving you that “sinking” feeling in your gut.
Often our mind affects our heart chakra with negative chatter and worries which takes away from what our “heart” wants. When we shift our focus to our heart we open ourselves up to attracting compassion and love.
Keywords: love, safety, trust, relationships, commitment, forgiveness, compassion, hope , kindness, gentleness, heart centered purpose, joy.
The Throat Chakra is located in our throat and represents our ability to communicate verbally, physically (body language) and mentally (telepathically). Through this center we share how we feel, express our beliefs and also give voice to our inner being. Creative expression transforms negative feelings and keeps our energy flowing allowing our “inner self” to be seen and heard. When our throat Chakra is blocked we can lose focus easily, lack concentration, always have to be doing something and not be able to relax, not able to express ourselves in a healthy manner.
Keywords: communication, expression, freedom, choice, willpower, faith, knowledge, ability to make decisions, leadership, active listening, speaking the truth, bridging head to heart
The Third Eye Chakra is located above our eyebrows in the center of our forehead and represents our ability to focus on and see the big picture. The sixth chakra reflects our intuition, inspiration, and physic abilities. The “ego” is also housed in the sixth and seventh chakras and having a balanced third and fourth chakra provides us with the strength to override the ego allowing us to follow our intuition. When the brow chakra is congested our mind can become unbalanced, negative ideas set in and our thoughts are scattered which clog up creative paths and form a fog that is difficult to see through. This effects our ability to think clearly, make decisions, and our awareness drops and we lose touch with our senses.
Keywords: mind, ideas, thoughts, dreams, openness to new ideas, honesty, psychic abilities, inner knowing, imagination, intuition, perspective, sixth sense.
The Crown Chakra is located at the top of your head and represents our ability to be fully connected to the universal energy field or the divine. This connection provides us with direction, inspiration to go further and shows us the way. When it’s healthy it helps to distinguish between truth/illusion and allows you to detach yourself from your emotions and experience genuine self-awareness. When the crown chakra is out of balance , we feel unconnected, lost, wandering through life feelings of no purpose or direction.
Keywords: spirituality, connection to the universe and/or the divine, awareness, trust in life, values, ethics, courage, fulfillment, selflessness, one with all.
